With the basketball season rolling along, the West Coast Conference announces its players of the week. On the men's side, GON's Steven Gray and POR's T.J. Campbell shared the award, while LMU's Alex Cowling and PEP's Miranda Ayim split the women's award.
Gray had 13 points, grabbed seven boards and had four assists to help lead his team to the Maui Invitational title, beating Colorado, Wisconsin, and Cincinnati. For the tournament Gray averaged a team-leading 18.3 ppg and 5.3 rpg, and 2.3 three-pointers (47%).
Campbell led Portland to a second place finish at the 76 Classic, including wins over UCLA (74-47) and then-No. 16 Minnesota (61-56) before falling to No. 8 West Virginia (84-66). Campbell was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Cowling averaged 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds on 58% shooting to earn All-Tournament honors at LMU's Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside Thanksgiving Classic. Had second double-double of season on Friday with 23 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting (3-of-4 from 3-point range) in semifinal win over Saint Louis. Followed with 19 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-12 (2-of-5 3-pt.) in overtime loss to South Florida in championship game. 42 points in tourney were tied for 4th-most in tourney history.
Ayim averaged 17.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 steals as the Waves won two of three this week, with both wins coming over major conference opponents (Providence and Purdue). She had 15 points against UC Riverside, a season-high 22 against Providence and her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Purdue.
