Five WCC Women's Squads Rank in Mid-Major Top-25 Poll

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference approaches the end of the 2013-14 non-conference schedule. Entering Wednesday, the WCC owns a record of 52-31 (62.7%) and the top four teams in the league standings own a combined slate of 33-2 (94.3%). Two teams – BYU and San Diego – boast unblemished 9-0 records, while No. 23/22 Gonzaga is 8-1 after posting back-to-back road wins against Big-10 opponents.


  • Through December 10, WCC teams own a 62.7% winning percentage vs. non-conference foes, including a 34-8 (81.0%) rate on their home floors. See page 2 for more.
  • WCC Teams rate in the top-25 among NCAA DI leaders in several categories: Assist/Turnover - Gonzaga (18th/1,26); Assists - BYU (23rd/18.0); Blocks - BYU (9th/6.3), Gonzaga (17th/5.5); Steals - Pacific (20th/11.6), Gonzaga (25th/11.4); Field Goal % - Saint Mary's (9th/48.8); 3P Field Goal % - Saint Mary’s (3rd/44.0); Scoring - Saint Mary’s (17th/84.8); Field Goal % Defense - Gonzaga (17th/32.6); Scoring Defense - Gonzaga (11th/53.5), San Diego (18th/55.1); 3PFG% Defense - Gonzaga (5th/22.1).   • BYU’s Jennifer Hamson is fourth among Division I blocked shots leaders (3.75) and 17th in FG% (61.5); Gonzaga’s Jazmine Redmon is 2nd in assist/turnover ratio (4.67); Saint Mary’s Kate Gaze is 22nd in assists (6.3); Saint Mary’s Danielle Mauldin is third in rebounds (14.0); Pacific’s Kendall Kenyon is 14th in rebounds (11.6);  Saint Mary’s Jackie Nared is 10th in scoring (24.2); Saint Mary’s Lauren Nicholson in 3rd in 3P FG% (55.9) and San Francisco’s Rachel Howard is 20th (46.7).
  • Five WCC teams - Gonzaga (1), BYU (2), San Diego (5), Saint Mary’s (9), and Pacific (25),  - cracked this week’s mid-major top-25 poll as released by College Basketball Insiders.
  • Four WCC teams - San Diego (19), Gonzaga (23), Saint Mary’s (38) and BYU (45) crack the top-50 in real-time RPI.
