WCC women's basketball conference play two weeks away

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With conference play about two weeks ago, WCC women's basketball non-conference heats up. Seven West Coast Conference teams boast a record of .500 or better and Gonzaga is receiving votes in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Top 25.


  • With conference play just a couple of weeks away, seven West Coast Conference women's basketball teams have a winningpercentage of .500 or better. Gonzaga (9-3) is receiving votes in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and AP Top 25.

  • BYU has won four straight. The Cougars defeated UC Santa Barbara 67-39 on Tuesday afternoon. Junior center Jennifer Hamson led BYU with 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

  • Portland has won three games in a row. WCC Player of the Week Kari Luttinen averaged 17.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last week, including a game-high 18 points in a 76-69 win over Fresno State on Friday night.

  • San Francisco is on a three-game winning streak. The Dons won 71-67 on Cal Poly Tuesday night behind a career-high 17 points from sophomore Aundrea Gordon.

  • Saint Mary's fell 76-62 to No. 14 UCLA and beat Tennessee Tech 73-58 at the St. John's Holiday Classic last weekend. Danielle Mauldin scored a career-high 26 points in the loss to the Bruins.
