Women's Crew Goes 2-0 To Open WCC Challenge

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's crew program continued its domination of the WCC Challenge as the Bulldogs improved to 12-1 all time in the four-year-old event. Gonzaga collected another pair of wins on Saturday at the 2,000 meter course at Lake Natoma.

In the morning session Gonzaga pulled ahead early and cruised to a 23-second win over Santa Clara University. Gonzaga pulled a time of 6:51.4 while SCU was in at 7:14.3.

In the afternoon session Gonzaga was tested by Saint Mary's College but had a good final 500 meter charge to post a 3-second win. GU crossed at 7:03.7 while Saint Mary's chased at 7:06.4.

The Bulldogs will face Loyola Marymount University and the University of San Diego on Sunday to close out the two-day challenge.

This year's competing varsity 8+ includes coxswain Erin Palmiter, stroke Kari Durgan, Jessica Kocarnik, Cory Nelson, Sarah Allison, Nicole Aadland-Lewis, Kelsey Raap, Julie Smetana and bow Kelsey Koenig.
