March 19, 2006

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's crew team was tested in both races on the final day of the WCC Challenge at Lake Natoma as the Bulldogs dropped a pair of races to Loyola Marymount University and the University of San Diego.

In the morning race, Gonzaga and LMU pushed each other for the first 1,500 meters before the Lions were able to use a late surge to win by just over one second. LMU crossed the 2,000 meter course at 6:45.8 while Gonzaga was close behind at 6:47.1.

In the final race of the day, Gonzaga fell behind San Diego early and could never recover as the Toreros pulled a time of 7:19.2 with Gonzaga crossing at 7:24.2.

Gonzaga returns to action next weekend as they host Washington State University and University of British Columbia at Silver Lake.

This year's competing varsity 8+ includes coxswain Erin Palmiter, stroke Kari Durgan, Jessica Kocarnik, Cory Nelson, Sarah Allison, Nicole Aadland-Lewis, Kelsey Raap, Julie Smetana and bow Kelsey Koenig.
