SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's women's varsity 4+ finished fourth in Grand Final racing at Saturday's Pacific Coast Racing Championships at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif. The Bulldogs finished third in morning heat racing to advance to the afternoon Grand Final where they were 3-seconds behind the University of Oregon in the race for the Bronze medal.
The University of California easily won the morning heat race with a time of 7:26.0 on the 2,000 meter course. West Coast Conference member Saint Mary's College was second at 7:35.6 followed by Gonzaga at 7:38.6. Sacramento State University, USC and Stanford University rounded out the Bulldogs heat.
Washington State University and Cal battled for first and second in the Grand Final with the Cougars winning by two seconds with a time of 7:25.7. Cal was right behind at 7:27.2. Gonzaga chased Oregon down the final portion of the course but could not catch the UO boat which finished t 7:39.8. Gonzaga was in at 7:42.3. Saint Mary's and UCLA battle for fifth and sixth.
Gonzaga's women's varsity 8+ will compete in Sunday's Pacific-10 Conference championships also held at Lake Natoma.
