Women's Crew 8th At Pac-10 Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gonzaga University women's varsity crew finished in 8th place at the 2005 Pacific-10 Conference rowing championships held at Lake Natoma outside of Sacramento on Sunday. Gonzaga which won their 9th straight West Coast Conference championship and second WIRA championship two weeks ago ended their season for the second straight year at the Pac-10 event.

In the opening heat Gonzaga finished fourth with a time of 6:51.35 as eventual Pac-10 champion the University of California easily won the heat in a time of 6:32.83. USC and UCLA also advanced to the Grand Final by placing second and third in the heat race. Gonzaga was 9-seconds behind UCLA for third while holding a 6-second advantage over fifth-place Sacramento State University.

In the Petite Final, Gonzaga got off to a slow start and closed on the field to finish second in the race and 8th overall at the Pac-10 championships. Oregon State University won Petite Final at 6:43.9 with Gonzaga edging out the University of San Dieog for second. GU crossed the line in 6:48.7 with USD right behind at 6:49.8

Gonzaga's varsity 8+ included coxswain Erin Palmiter, stroke Kari Durgan, Karen O'Hagan, Cory Nelson, Jessica Kocarnik, Stephanie Murphy, Courtney Haia, Sarah Allison and bow Nicole Aadland-Lewis.
