Women's Crew Falls At Head Of The Snake

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University women's crew won all four race segments on Saturday morning as the Cougars defeated Gonzaga University at the Head of the Snake regatta at Wawawai Landing outside of Pullman. This was the second straight week that the two schools had faced each other with Gonzaga winning one of two race segments last Saturday at the Head of the Spokane.

In the varsity 8+ event Washington State's varsity crew covered the 5,000 meter course in a time of 17:16 to defeated the WSU junior varsity boat by 6-seconds. Gonzaga's varsity 8+ was nearly a minute behind finishing with a time of 18:13.99.

In the top novice 8+ race Washington State picked up a little revenge against the Zags as they defeated Gonzaga by 13-seconds. Last week Gonzaga's novice boat had won the 5,000 meter Head of the Spokane. WSU's top novice boat finished with a 5,000 meter time of 19:27.04. Gonzaga's top novice boat was in at 19:40.58 followed by the second Gonzaga novice boat at 21:01.33 and WSU's second novice boat at 21:03.02.

The second flight of races was included Gonzaga's junior varsity 8+ against Washington State's 3rd and 4th varsity 8's. The boats raced a distance of 3,500 meters with WSU 3rd varsity winning at 11:13.53. WSU's 4th boat was in at 11:27.97 followed by the Bulldogs JV at 11:50.78.

The final racing flight was the third novice 8+ from each school racing at a distance of 2,500 meters. WSU won at 9:19.13 with GU crossing at 9:46.22.

Gonzaga returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 13 when they complete their fall racing season at the Head of the Lake in Seattle.
