BEAUMONT, Calif. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team struggled on the final day of the third annual UC Riverside Lady Braveheart Challenge, shooting a final-round 331 to slip into 10th place.
The Bulldogs entered the final 18 holes of the 36-hole event tied for seventh, but no Bulldog broke 80 Tuesday. Gonzaga finished at 657, two shots out of eighth and three shots out of seventh. San Diego State University captured the team title with a 621 for a 10-stroke victory over UC Davis.
Mary Kate Morgan and Lacey Jo Manwaring had the best Bulldogs rounds of the day Tuesday, each shooting 81. Morgan tied for 18th at 161 over the 6,080-yard, par 72 Oak Valley Golf Club, Manwaring finishing at 165 to tie for 34th. Sarah Sheffield, tied for eighth after Monday's opening round, shot an 84 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th at 162.
Sophomore Jennifer Bermingham of host UC Riverside posted identical rounds of 73 for a 146 for her third career victory, a 4-stroke win over Bryana Gregory of UC Davis. Gregory and teammate Sydney Roughton were the first-round co-leaders, Roughton dropping to fifth with a final-round 81.
The Bulldogs will be idle until March 3-4 when they compete at the Red Rock Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.
