USF Women's Golf Shares First Place After Day one At 2006 San Jose State Spartan

(Pleasanton, CA) - USF women's golf shot a 309 in the opening round of the 2006 San Jose State Spartan Monday in wet conditions at the Castlewood Country Club Hill Course, good for a share of the opening round lead with the host Spartans. Junior Kristin Nichols enjoyed the best round of her career, firing a one-under 71 and sits atop the leader board entering the second day.

Joining Nichols in the top-10 is sophomore Jessica Potter with a 77 on the par 72, 5,939 yards course. San Francisco enters the final round four strokes in front of Fresno State (313) in third place and seven shot ahead of UC Davis, Hawaii and UC Irvine at 316.

Final round action of the 36-hole event begins Tuesday morning.
