(Boulder City, NV) - USF women's golf shot an opening round 298, good for a share of seventh place at the 2007 UNLV Spring Invitational Monday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Dons are five strokes from cracking the top-five in a highly competitive regional field on the par-72 course playing at 6,199 yards.
Three teams went low in the first 18 holes as No. 14 BYU shot an 8-under 280, followed by No. 15 New Mexico at 4-under 284 and Indiana at 3-under 285. New Mexico State is in fourth at 291, while Idaho rounds out the top-five at 292.
Senior Eloise Vicencio is in a logjam in 17th place after firing an even-par 72 to lead the Dons in her first tournament of the Spring Season, highlighted by thee birdies and 12 pars. Freshman Natasha Podmore shot a two-over 74 and carded a team-high 14 pars, including eight consecutive to close her round. Freshman Christina Stockton added a 75 for San Francisco while senior Kristin Nichols and junior Jessica Potter each shot 77.
