LEESBURG, Va. - The Gonzaga University women's golf team shot the fifth best total of the day on Sunday as the Bulldogs secured a fifth place finish at Hoya Invitational held at the Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club in Northern Virginia.
Gonzaga opened the day tied for fifth with Princeton University, but could not keep pace with the Tigers squad that fired a 307 to move into third place. The Bulldogs did pass Bethune-Cookman College as the Top 5 schools from day one remained among the Top 5 after the final round. Host Georgetown University won both team and individualist honors as the Hoyas shot a two-round total of 612 to win by 17 strokes. Christy Larrimore shot a two-under par 70 on Sunday to win the individual championship by 10 strokes. Gonzaga had a two-round team total of 644.
Sophomore Lacey Jo Manwaring entered Sunday's final round tied for 9th but could only muster an 82 as she dropped into a three-way tie for 19th. Sarah Sheffield moved up from a tie for 20th on the opening day to join Manwaring in 19th. Both golfers fired two round totals of 161.
Jennifer Swanson made the biggest move for the Bulldogs with a second round total of 76 to finish tied for 40th with a 168.. Lauren Phillips was tied for 25th with a two-round score of 163 and Mary Kate Morgan finished with a 166 to tie for 34th.
