Lompoc, Calif. - Behind senior All-American Eileen Vargas and freshman Misun Cho, the fourth-ranked Pepperdine women's golf team took a commanding lead after 36 holes of the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships that opened Monday at the par-72, 6,069-yard La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, California.
Vargas carded a 1-over par score of 145 to take a two-shot lead over Cho, who opened with scores of 71-76 for a 147 total. The duo helped the Waves post scores of 298-303 for a 15-over par score of 601 and a 22-shot lead over second-place San Francisco (623). Santa Clara (638) is third followed by Portland (643) and Gonzaga (646).
Pepperdine is seeking its sixth straight title and second tournament victory of the 2006-07 season.
