No. 7 Pepperdine in Third Place After Two Rounds of NCAA Central Regional Championships

Sophomore Leanne Bowditch carded an even-par score of 72 on Friday to help No. 7 Pepperdine move into third place at the 2006 NCAA Central Regional Women's Golf Championships that are taking place at the par-72, 6,289-yard Traditions Golf Course in Bryan, Texas.

The Waves posted a second-round score of 16-over par 304 for a 36-hole total of 31-over par 607. Top-ranked and No. 1-seed Duke holds the lead heading into Saturday's final round with an 18-over par total of 594. The Blue Devils, who shot a 12-over par 300 on Friday, lead second-place USC (597) by three shots.

Nebraska, which shot a 10-over par 298 for the low round of the day, is in fourth with a 611 total and is followed by Florida (613), Northwestern (616), Michigan State (617) and Kent State (620).

The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, May 23-26.

Individually, Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Irene Cho of USC share the second-round lead with 1-over par totals of 145. Blumenherst's Blue Devil teammate Elizabeth Janangelo is third at 2-over par 146 while Bowditch is tied for fourth with Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll and Samantha Richdale of Illinois State with 3-over par scores of 147.

Pepperdine junior Eileen Vargas is tied for 19th at 8-over par 152 while senior Carolina Llano in tied for 29th at 10-over par 154. Sophomore Marina Choi and freshman Jayvie Agojo are tied for 35th with 11-over par totals of 155.

Saturday's final round can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstat.com. Pepperdine will once again be grouped with Duke and USC and is scheduled to begin teeing off at 5:40 a.m. (PDT).
