The eighth-ranked Pepperdine women's golf team continued its climb up the leaderboard on Thursday as it carded a 10-over par 298 and is in third place heading into Friday's final round of the 2006 Division I Women's Golf Championships at the par-72, 2,603-yard Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Waves have a 54-hole total of 30-over par 894 and are 18-stokes behind top-ranked and defending national champion Duke. The Blue Devils posted Thursday's lowest round, posting a 1-under par 287 and are 12-over par 876 for the tournament.
Duke holds a 13-shot advantage over second-place USC (889). Purdue and Arizona State are tied for fourth with 32-over par scores of 896.
Junior All-American Eileen Vargas continues to remain atop the individual standings after shooting a 3-over par 75 and is at 2-under par 214. Vargas, who is the only player infield below par, holds a three-shot lead over players tied for second with 1-over totals of 217.
Senior Carolina had the low round of the day for Pepperdine as she carded a 1-under par 71 and is tied for 17th with a 6-over par score of 222.
The final round is scheduled for Friday with the Waves set to tee-off at 10:20 a.m. (PDT) and will be grouped with Duke and USC.
