Broncos In 7th Place After First Round At Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's golf team got underway at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational, held at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course on Monday. The Broncos finished the first round with a combined score of 322, good for 7th place out of the 20 team field.

The Broncos were led by senior Samantha Trask, who shot 76 and is tied for 8th place after the first round, only five strokes back of the leaders. Trask was actually the individual champion in this tournament in 2004-2005 with a combined score of 146 (73, 73).

Junior Jennifer Sun turned in the only other Bronco score in the 70s, coming in with a 79, tied for 21st. The three remaining team scorers were junior Corey Utsurogi, who shot 82 and is tied for 40th, junior Jenny Nelson, who shot 85 and is tied for 56th, and senior Megan Stoddart, who shot 86 and is tied for 64th.

The Broncos also had two freshmen playing individually. Erin Sullivan shot 80, tying her for 30th, and Jamie Nonaka finished tied for 56th with a first round score of 85.

Tuesday, the Broncos will conclude the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational with the final round, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m..
