Malibu, Calif. - Senior Carolina Llano, who helped lead the Pepperdine women's golf team to a third place showing at the 2006 NCAA Division I Championships last week, was tabbed an Academic All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), it was announced last Friday evening at a banquet honoring student-athletes for their athletic and academic success.
Llano, who also was selected to the West Coast Conference's (WCC) All-Academic Team, placed second on the Waves with a 74.18 stroke average in 30 rounds. She posted six Top 20 finishes, including four Top 10s.
In addition to her success on the course, Llano excelled in the classroom despite participating in a sport that misses significant class time and requires a minimum 3.5 grade-point average to be eligible for Academic All-American. She is majoring in international business and will graduate in December.
In Llano's four seasons at Pepperdine, the Waves have finished in the Top 5 at the NCAA Championships three times, finishing second (2003), fourth (2005) and third (2004).
