Head Coach Laurie Gibbs Announces 2006-07 Women's Golf Schedule

July 17, 2006

Malibu, Calif. - Following a third place finish at the 2006 Division I Women's Golf Championships, the Pepperdine women's golf team will travel a similar road of a year ago during the 2006-07 campaign as it seeks its first national championship.

Highlighting the Waves' schedule that was announced by head coach Laurie Gibbs on Monday, will be the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by Washington and the inaugural Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational in Kauai, Hawaii, during the fall and the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (February 12-14) at nearby Palos Verdes Country Club and the First Annual UCF Collegiate Challenge (March 5-6) hosted by Central Florida at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

The LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Florida, will serve host to the 2007 NCAA Championships May 22-25.

After two years in Northern California, the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships (WCC) will move to Southern California and will be held at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, California, April 16-17.

The Waves open their fall schedule at the Washington Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Redmond, Washington, October 9-11. The tournament is one of three Pepperdine will compete in during the fall.

The Waves begin their spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

Pepperdine, which traditionally plays a challenging schedule against the nation's top teams, will make several return trips to tournaments it played in a year ago. Last season, the Waves registered nine Top 5 finishes as they captured team titles at the Branch Law / Dick McGuire Invitational, Washington Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, Santa Clara Colby Invitational and WCC Championships in Copperopolis, California.

Pepperdine finished third at the NCAA Central Championships and NCAA Championships.

Pepperdine returns five players from last year's team, including senior All-American Eileen Vargas, and juniors Jayvie Agojo and Leanne Bowditch. The Waves were ranked fifth in the final Golfstat rankings.
