USF Women's Golf Opens 2007-08 Season at Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate

Sept. 16, 2007

(San Francisco) - USF women's golf competes in its first event of the 2007-08 season at the 2007 Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate at the Highlands Ranch Golf Course, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, hosted by Denver University. The 54-hole event begins Monday, September 17 with 36 holes on day one. The Dons ended last year ranked No. 43 in the final GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings after advancing to their sixth regional appearance in seven years in 2007.

Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, Columbia, Denver, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi, North Carolina-Wilmington, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, San Jose State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UC Davis comprise the tournament field. San Francisco won the event in 2004, taking a one stroke victory against the Cyclones in stormy weather and then posted a fifth place showing in the 2005 tournament.

USF will send an experienced group into its first action of the season under first year head coach Ria Quiazon, who has competed professionally after a standout career at Cal. The Dons are headlined by senior Jessica Potter and sophomore Christina Stockton, who captured 2007 All-West Coast Conference First Team honors last season. The 2006 Canadian Amateur Champion, Potter competed in the LPGA's 2007 Canadian Open as an amateur during the summer.

Seniors Casey Gee and Chaneng Joe, who competed in the 2007 US Women's Amateur, along with sophomore Natasha Podmore complete the Dons lineup for the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate.

"Our players are coming off of some great work over the summer, both in practice and in competition," Quiazon said. "I can't wait to see how they put it together as a team."
