CORVALLIS, Ore. - Sarah Sheffield had a 36-hole total of 155 to stand in 40th place, but Gonzaga University's women's golf team struggled during Monday's 36 holes of the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational hosted by Oregon State University.
Sheffield shot 74-81, the 74 one of just three sub-80 rounds for the Bulldogs on the first day. Mary Kate Morgan opened with a 76 and followed that with an 86, and Lacey Joe Manwaring shot an opening-round 78 and a second-round 80 as no Bulldog broke 80 in the second round over the 6,217-yard, par 72 Trysting Tree Golf Course.
As a result the Bulldogs find themselves in 16th place at 642 in the 17-team field heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes, just two strokes better than last-place University of Portland. Denver University is the first-day leader at 586 for a 10-stroke lead over Long Beach State University.
Stephanie Sherlock of Denver holds a 1-stroke lead over Selanee' Henderson of UC Irvine, Kay Hoey of LBSU and Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside going into Tuesday's final round.
