Kuida, Rachor Help Pilots Finish Fifth at the MDA Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. - Junior Taryn Kuida and sophomore Paige Rachor both finished in the top 20 individually as the Portland Pilots women's golf team finished fifth as a team at the MDA Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the Hangman Valley Golf Course.

Kuida and Rachor both shot three rounds in the 70's at the 54-hole, 13-team tournament. Kuida tied for 12th place with a 13-over par 230 (73-79-78) and finished 13 strokes off the pace. Rachor tied for 18th place with a 233 (76-78-79).

Tournament co-host Eastern Washington took home the team title with four players finishing in the top 10. The Eagles totaled a 901 for the tourney, six strokes better than runner-up Wyoming. Cal Poly placed third with a 914, UC Riverside was fourth with a 916 and the Pilots rounded out the top five with a 932 (304-314-314).

Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside claimed medalist honors with a one-over par 217 (72-71-74) on the par-72 course. Cal Poly's Hannah Brabb finished four strokes back, while Kellie Holmstedt was EWU's top finisher, placing third with a 223.

UP senior Kristin Howell just missed a top-20 finish, tying for 26th with a 235 (77-80-78). Freshman Lisa Okazaki tied for 34th place in her collegiate debut. The Mililani, Hawaii, native tied for the tournament-high with eight birdies en route to a 237 (78-77-82). Freshman Kalyn Dodge rounded out the scoring for Portland, tying for 54th place with a 241 (80-82-79).

The Pilots next travel to Boise, Idaho for the Bronco Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament runs from Oct. 9-10 at the Banbury Golf Club.
