Nov 4- The Saint Mary's men's golf team captured fourth place at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate at the Turtle Bay Golf Resort following a final day team score of 301 strokes. The Gaels finished the tourney with a total of 900 strokes. Tying for first place at the tournament were host Hawaii and South Carolina with 891 strokes. In third place with 895 strokes was Virgina followed by Saint Mary's.
Leading the way for the Gaels was junior Joe Lanza. The 2003 All-WCC First Team selection finished the tournament in sixth place with a total of 220 strokes (4-over par). Behind Lanza was fellow junior Liam Kendregan. The junior posted a final round score of 79 to finish the tournament with 227 total strokes (11-over par). Kendregan finished in a tie for 24th place.
Also contributing for the Gaels was senior captain Brent Jensen. The senior finished in a tie for 31st place with 229 strokes (13-over par). Wrapping up the Gael contributors was Steven Brooks and Chadd Cocco. Brooks, a senior, posted a final round score of 78 to finish the tournament with 233 strokes (17-over par) in a tie for 51st place. Cocco, a freshman, posted a tournament total of 235 (19-over par) to finish in a tie for 57th place.
The USF men's golf team shot a final round 312 to finish sixth in the Hawaii/Turtle Bay Invitational Tuesday. Hawaii and South Carolina shared the title.
The Santa Clara University men's golf team fired a season-high 322 at the final round of the University of Hawaii-Turtle Bay Intercollegiate to finish the tournament in 11th place Tuesday afternoon at the Links at Turtle Bay Golf Course. The Broncos ended the tournament with a team total of 927, 36-strokes behind co-Champions South Carolina and Hawaii.
Justin Ahasic fired the best round of the day for the Broncos with his 7-over par, 79, placing him in a tie for 38th with a two day total of 15-over par, 231. Ahasic was the only Bronco to shoot in the 70's for all three rounds of the tournament.
Michael Nicoletti was the top finisher for the Borncos with his two day total of 12-over par, 228, placing him in a tie for 26th despite a final round 80. Jong Yoon ended the tournament in a tie for 33rd with is tournament total of 14-over par, 230, following his 82 on Tuesday.
Matt Klenz carded an 81 on Tuesday, pushing his three round total to 22-over par, 238, and placing him in a tie for 69th. Blake Lugar rounded out the scoring for Santa Clara with his 83 on Tuesday, giving him a tournament total of 39-over par, 255, which placed him 91st out of 97 golfers
Under the direction of first-year head coach Tim Mickelson, the San DiegoToreros battled over 17 top collegiate programs. Led by El Cajon's Jimmy Harris, USD battled to a 16th place finish. The par-72 Turtle Bay course spans 7,199 yards.
