Malibu, Calif. - Junior Eileen Vargas, who helped the Pepperdine women's golf team capture two tournaments during the fall, was named to Golf World's mid-season All-American team, the publication announced on Wednesday.
In four fall tournaments, Vargas posted four Top 10 showings, including individual medalist honors at the season-opening Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational.
The Pepperdine junior recorded a two-shot victory over teammate Carolina Llano as the Waves registered a two-shot win over Texas A&M. Vargas also helped Pepperdine to the team title at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
Vargas completed the fall campaign with a team-leading 71.92 stroke average in 12 rounds and is ranked No. 6 nationally by Golfstat and No. 9 by Golfweek.
Pepperdine, ranked No. 5 nationally, opens its spring schedule at the prestigious Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes where it enters play as the defending champion. The three-day tournament begins February 15 with 18 holes scheduled each day.
