Women's Lacrosse Begins Season 2-0

Davis, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team beat UC Davis 12-8 on Saturday afternoon in Davis, giving the Gaels their second consecutive victory to begin the season and their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory this year.

The Gaels fell behind 6-0, but then scored seven straight goals to take a 7-6 lead with 18:45 remaining in the game. After UC Davis tied the game at 7-7, the Gaels outscored the Aggies 5-1 over the final 18 minutes to pick up the win.

Saint Mary's improves to 2-0 for the first time under head coach Brandon Badgley and improved to 1-0 in MPSF play. UC Davis fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Gaels were led offensively by Kim Reny, who scored three goals on eight shots and P.J. Hainley, Chloe Dee and Molly Wagner each added two goals in the win. Jen Utley had one goal and four assists, Jessica Tsou added one goal and one assist and Maddie Marsh had one goal.

Defensively the Gaels did an excellent job in the second half, holding the Aggies to two goals. Sara Jo Rodriguez picked up the victory in net, replacing Hilary Gardner midway through the first half.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, March 3 when it travels to Eugene, OR to take on the Oregon Ducks at 7 p.m.
