Women's Lacrosse Falls to UC Davis in MPSF Game 10-5

Orinda, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game, this time to the UC Davis Aggies by a score of 10-5 from Miramonte High School on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, SMC falls to 0-2 on the season, and 0-2 in MPSF action, while the Aggies improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

UC Davis jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring on five of their first six shots in the game. Katie McGovern opened the scoring with a free position goal just 2:26 into the contest. After back-to-back goals by Tiffany Lee, Alannah Taylor scored the first of three goals at the 9:49 mark, giving UCD a 4-0 advantage. Lee added an unassisted goal, her third of the game, with 10:04 remaining in the first half to extend the Aggies' lead to 5-0.

SMC freshman Alex Oetken scored the first goal of her career on a free position attempt with 9:01 left in the first half. UC Davis added two more first half goals to open a 7-1 lead at the 24:48 mark. Ally High scored her first goal of the season with 2:25 left on the clock, as the Gaels trailed 7-2 at halftime.

One minute into the second half, Rosy Iaccino scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 7-3. After UC Davis' McGovern added a free position goal at the 34:52 mark. Iaccino added her second tally of the game off an assist from freshman P.J. Hainley. Jen Sanderson answered with a free position goal at the 36:55 mark to keep the Aggie advantage at five goals.

The score remained 9-4 until Hainley took a pass from Jessica Tsou and scored her first collegiate goal with 5:39 remaining in the game. Taylor added the final tally of the game with 4:25, giving UC Davis a 10-5 victory.

Kristin Braasch recorded five saves in the first half and picked up the win for the Aggies. Braasch faced seven shots and allowed two goals in 30 minutes of action. SMC goalkeeper Katie Augustine took the loss and fell to 0-2 on the year. Augustine recorded five saves and faced 15 shots in the game.

Saint Mary's will return to action on Friday, March 11 when the Gaels host LaSalle University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Saint Mary's Stadium.
