Women's Lacrosse Falls to LaSalle 16-9

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss of the season, this time a 16-9 defeat at the hands of the LaSalle University Explorers at Saint Mary's Stadium on Friday afternoon. Emily Bonczek scored seven goals and added two assists to pace LaSalle to the win.

SMC's Molly Wagner put the Gaels ahead 1-0 when she scored an unassisted goal just 1:29 into the game. LaSalle answered with six straight goals to open a 6-1 advantage with 14:00 remaining in the first half. Bonczeck scored the first goal for the Explorers, then assisted on Kate Henwood's first goal at the 3:41 mark.

After Bonczek scored her third goal of the game to give LaSalle a 6-1 lead, SMC's Ally High scored her first goal of the season at the 19:49 mark, pulling the Gaels within 6-2. LaSalle then scored the next five goals to open an 11-2 advantage by halftime.

LaSalle's Kristen Davis scored the first goal of the second half to give the Explorers a 10-goal (12-2) lead with 23:43 left to play. Saint Mary's answered with goals by Jessica Tsou, Rosy Iaccino, and P.J. Hainley to cut the deficit to 12-5 at the 40:11 mark. LaSalle scored four of the next five goals to extend its lead to 16-6 with seven minutes left on the clock.

The final three goals of the contest came of the sticks of Saint Mary's players, as Hainley, Wagner, and Iaccino scored their second goals of the game. Iaccino has scored two goals in each of the first three games this season.

Katie Augustine suffered the loss in goal for the Gaels as her record, and the Gaels' record, falls to 0-3 on the season. Augustine recorded 12 saves in the game with nine coming in the second half. LaSalle improved to 1-1 on the season as goalkeeper Brittany Friedrich improved to 1-1 on the year. Friedrich recorded four saves in the first half, before giving way to Chantelle McCormick in the second half. McCormick tallied two saves in the final 30 minutes.
