Moraga, CA - Dolly Williams scored six goals to help the William and Mary Tribe post a 21-11 win over Saint Mary's in a woman's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium. Sonja Kapusta scored four goals for the Gaels, who fell to 2-5 overall this season. The Tribe improved to 2-4 on the year.
William and Mary jumped out to a 4-1 lead before SMC's P.J. Hainley scored the second goal for the Gaels at the 19:34 mark. The Tribe then answered with four straight goals, which included two goals by Williams, to open a commanding 8-2 advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half.
Abbie Coleman scored the second of her three goals in the game at the 14:26 mark, and sophomore defender Lauren Frei scored her first collegiate at the 12:38 mark to cut the deficit in half. Goals by the Tribe's Williams and Jamie Fitzgerald extended the lead to 10-4, but a goal by Kapusta had the Gaels trailing 10-5 at the break.
Kapusta opened the second half with her second goal of the game to get SMC within four at 10-6. After Mary Zulty scored for the Tribe, Kapusta answered again for the Gaels. Williams then sparked a six-goal burst by the Tribe over the next six minutes to give William and Mary a 17-7 advantage with 19 minutes left to play.
For Saint Mary's, Kapusta led the way with four points, as she scored a season-high four goals against the Tribe. Freshman Abbie Coleman notched her second hat trick of the season with three goals, and Lauren Frei finished the game with two goals
William and Mary was led by Dolly Williams as she netted six goals to lead all players. Kristen Wong had four points on three goals and one assist, and Julia Martin, Mary Zulty and Clare Dennis had two goals each.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Saturday, March 24 when the Gaels play at Brown University. The game between SMC and Brown will begin at 2 p.m. eastern time.
