Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team dropped their first home game of the season on Monday afternoon, falling 17-10 to Vermont at Saint Mary's Stadium. With the loss the Gaels fall to 2-1 at home.
The Gaels trailed by three goals at halftime and cut the lead to 12-10 with just over 11 minutes left in the game, but the Catamounts scored the game's final five goals to pull out the victory.
With the loss the Gaels fall to 3-3 overall, while Vermont improved to 5-1.
Offensively the Gaels were once again led by junior Kim Reny, who scored three goals and added one assist. Reny currently leads the Gaels with 17 goals and 20 points on the year.
Saint Mary's also received a solid game from Jen Utley, who scored two gals and added one assist and Sonja Kapusta added two goals. Maddie Marsh, Chloe Dee and Molly Wagner each scored one goal to round out the scoring.
In the game the Gaels forced Vermont into 29 turnovers, but the Catamounts outshot the Gaels 35-28.
Vermont was led by Becky Kenison, who had five goals and Kristen Millar added four goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Hilary Gardner recorded nine saves in the loss, including six saves in the first half.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Thursday, March 23 when it hosts Ohio at 3:30 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium.
