Lacrosse Suffers 18-4 Loss to Denver

Berkeley, CA- The Saint Mary's lacrosse team suffered an 18-4 loss to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Denver Friday afternoon from Memorial Stadium. Kristie Leggio led all scorers with 10 points on eight goals and two assists. After the loss, SMC moves to 3-6 on the season.

After the Gaels took an early 2-1 lead on a goal by senior Molly Wagner, Denver ripped off 11 straight to take a 12-2 lead at the intermission. Six of the Pioneers' goal came off the stick of Leggio in the half.

In the second half, Denver did not slow down as it rallied off six more goals to take an 18-2 lead. SMC was able to tack on two more goals when Kim Reny found the back of the net with 12 minutes left on a pass by Wagner.

Jen Utley netted the last goal on an unassisted attempt with two minutes remaning.

Four Pioneer players tallied multi-goal games, including eight by Leggio and four by Stephanie Greenless.

Sonja Kapusta put the Gaels on the board with a goal in the fifth minute. SMC was out-shot 50-23 on the afternoon.

Becky Hakendorf earned the victory for Denver, posting four saves in 30 minutes of action. Sara Jo Rodriguez led all goalkeepers with nine saves.

Saint Mary's will return to action on Thursday, April 6 against California. Face off is slated for 4 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium.
