Women's Lacrosse Falls to Cal 19-5 in MPSF Contest

Berkeley, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse suffered a 19-5 defeat to the California Golden Bears in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest on Tuesday afternoon from Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, CA. Both Rosy Iaccino and Jen Utley scored two goals for the Gaels.

After Utley scored to even the score at 1-1 at the 26:16 mark, Cal scored five straight goals to open a 6-1 advantage with 17:51 remaining in the first half. Alex Oetken scored her fifth goal of the season at the 17:13 mark, and after a California goal, Rosy Iaccino scored SMC third goal of the first half. Cal would score two more times before halftime and led 9-3 at the break.

Cal scored the first five goals of the second half to take a commanding 14-3 lead with 23 minutes left in the game. Iaccino scored her second goal of the game with 21:30 remaining, and after four straight goals by the Bears, Utley added her second goal of the game with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.

With the loss, SMC drops to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in MPSF action. The Bears improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Saint Mary's will return to MPSF play on Saturday when the Gaels travel to the University of Denver for a 1:00 PM Mountain Time start against the Pioneers.
