Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team lost to the Oregon Ducks by a final score of 16-8 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game from Saint Mary's Stadium on Saturday afternoon. On Senior Day in Moraga, Rosy Iaccino scored three times and Dearborn David added two goals to lead the Gaels. Oregon's Lindsay Killian scored for goals to lead the Ducks.
With the loss SMC falls to 1-11 overall and completes MPSF regular season action with a 0-5 record. Oregon improves to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in MPSF competition.
On a day when eight seniors were making their final regular season appearance at home, seniors scored six of the eight SMC goals. After Oregon's Theresa Waldron scored to open the game, Iaccino answered for SMC with her first of three goals on the afternoon at the 4:16 mark. Exactly one minute later, fellow senior Lauren Riggers put the Gaels ahead 2-1 with her ninth goal of the season.
Following goals by Killian and Emily Fowler, the Ducks held a 3-2 advantage with 22:38 remaining in the first half. David and Iaccino answered for the Gaels, giving SMC a 4-3 lead with just under 12 minutes left in the first half. Killian scored the next two goals for the Ducks courtesy of assists from Lindsay Pittard and Jen May, giving Oregon the lead at 5-4 with 11:08 left on the half.
David scored her second goal of the contest less than one minute later to even the score at 5-5, but Oregon answered with a goal by Erin Gaebe just 46 seconds later to give the Ducks a 6-5 advantage. After SMC's Molly Wagner scored to knot the score at 6-6 with 8:38 remaining in the first half, Oregon scored two more times before the halftime horn to take an 8-6 lead into the intermission.
Oregon continued to score eight more unanswered goals in the second half to open a 16-6 advantage with 5:06 left to play. The Gaels were held scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the second half until Iaccino scored with 4:04 minute remaining, for her third goal of the game.
Allison O'Brien covered the goal for Oregon in the second half and collected three saves against seven shots by the Gaels. Louisa Dorsch picked up the win in goal for Oregon after playing the first half in goal for the Ducks. Dorsch had five saves while allowing six goals in the first half. Katie Augustine, who was also playing in her last regular season home game, had 16 saves for SMC against 42 shots by the Ducks.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Friday, April 22 when the Gaels travel to George Washington. The game against the Colonials will begin at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in Washington, D.C.
