Davidson, NC - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered their second loss of their two-game road trip to the East Coast with a 13-10 final against Davidson on Saturday afternoon in Davidson, NC.
The Gaels fell to 4-11 on the year, while Davidson improved to 9-6.
With 7:13 left on the second-half game clock Davidson found the SMC cage to break a 10-10 deadlock and followed it up with two insurance goals in the final minutes to lift Davidson to the 13-10 final.
Wildcat sophomore Emily Palmer notched two of her three goals in the first half, while senior Eloise Grose struck three times in a row, to help the Wildcats to a 7-2 advantage by halftime.
After the break, however, the Gaels turned up the heat and opened the stanza on a 4-0 run to come within one goal of the 'Cats, 7-6. On back-to-back goals by Kim Reny with just over eight minutes to play, SMC tied the score at 10-all, but stellar efforts by Diefendorf and Horton in the time remaining closed the door on a Gael come-back.
Davidson senior goalie Leslie Smith picked up her ninth win of the spring while charting 10 saves and grabbing eight ground balls. SMC's Sara Jo Rodriguez absorbed the loss, but tallied an impressive 14 saves and 12 ground balls in the Gael cage.
SMC concludes its regular season at home on April 29 versus UC Davis.
