Orinda, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-7 loss to the Le Moyne Dolphins in a non-conference game on Wednesday night game played at Miramonte High School. Kylie Rosette had a game-high five points and Lisa McCarthey scored a game-high three goals to lead the Dolphins to the win. The loss drops the Gaels record to 0-3 on the year, while Le Moyne improved to 2-1 overall.
Le Moyne jumped out to a 7-0 as by the 18:14 mark of the first half. McCarthy tallied all three of her goals during that stretch, and Rosette scored both her goals in the same span. SMC's first goal of the contest came at the 15:41 mark when P.J. Hainley scored the first of her team-high two goals. The two goals by Hainley give her four on the season.
After Hainley's goal, Le Moyne scored back-to-back goals by Amanda Keegan and Kari DeWick. Trailing 9-1, Saint Mary's went on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 9-4 with 8:37 left in the first half. The three goals were scored by Abbie Coleman, Amy Daniels and Amber Lister. After the quick run by the Gaels, Le Moyne answered with three straight goals to end the half, and lead 12-4 at the break.
The Dolphins came out of halftime and scored the first two goals of the second half, ad Lauren Byrne netted her second of the game and Molly Yaman scored her only goal of the contest. Chloe Dee scored her lone goal of the game for SMC at the 19:03 mark, but back-to-back tallies by McKenzie Gray and Stephanie Donegan gave Le Moyne its biggest lead of the game at 16-4.
Hainley scored her second goal at the 7:53 mark and Jen Utley scored SMC's final goal with just 3:33 left on the clock.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Saturday when the Gaels host the Siena Saints. The game between SMC and Siena is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium.
