Women's Lacrosse Travels to Stanford

This Week in Women's Lacrosse: The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team will play in their third conference game of the 2006 season against the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday afternoon. The game between the Gaels and Cardinal is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Stanford, CA.

Scouting the Cardinal: The Cardinal will enter Sunday's game with a 3-2 overall record and a 1-1 conference mark. Stanford is set to play two games this weekend. The Cardinal will host Columbia University on Saturday and return to face the Gaels on Sunday. Stanford is coming off of its most impressive win of its early season when they upset the No. 13 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores 15-9. Six Cardinal players tallied goals in this game. The Cardinal are 1-1 against ranked opponents, losing to Notre Dame earlier in the year.The Cardinal are led by senior Attacker Megan Burker. On the season, Burker has led the Cardinal in several scoring categories with 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Junior Liz Piselli and Senior Sarah Bach also have registered 11 goals for the Cardinal. Piselli has recorded all three of Stanford's game winning shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Shane has recorded 56 saves and posts a .544 save percentage.

Week in Review: The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season this past Friday when they fell to the Oregon University Ducks 22-8. Despite the loss, the Gaels are still off to their best start since the 2001 season.The Gaels were led by Kim Reny, who scored three goals in the game. Chloe Dee added two goals in the loss and Jackie Spencer had two goals.

Next week: After playing three straight road games, the Gaels return to Saint Mary's Stadium for a six-game home stretch. The first of these games takes place of Friday, March 17 when Saint Mary's hosts Long Island University. The match between the Gaels and the Blackbirds is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
