Women's Lacrosse Returns to Action on Friday

This week in women's lacrosse: The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team returns to action on Friday, March 17. The Gaels will host the Long Island University Blackbirds from Saint Mary's Stadium. The non-conference game between the Gaels and the Blackbirds is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Scouting the Blackbirds: The Long Island University Blackbirds have began the season 0-2 with losses to Canisius and Fairfield University. The Blackbirds have flown west to take on two California teams. They face the UC Davis Aggies on Monday. After a few days off, the Blackbirds will return to action on Friday when they face the Gaels. Long Island has tallied 26 points on 17 goals and nine assists in their first two games. They are led by junior attacker Amy Rizzo who leads the team in points and goals with nine and seven respectively. The Blackbirds are also led by senior attacker Chrissie Carleton who leads the team with five assists.

Week in Review: The Gaels finished their three game road stretch at Stanford this past weekend. The Gaels were defeated by No. 20 Stanford 18-7. Against the Cardinal, Jackie Spencer and Chloe Dee recorded multiple goals. Molly Wagner added two assists. The Gaels posted a 1-2 record during their road stretch.

Gaels Return Home: The Gales return to the friendly confines of Saint Mary's Stadium for their next six games. Six of the eight Gaels home games are played during this stretch. Saint Mary's opened the season at home where they defeated Robert Morris in a 16-15 thriller. They Gaels look to add to their 1-0 home record over the next six games.

Next Week for the Gaels: Saint Mary's is scheduled to play in games against Vermont University and Ohio University. The Gaels will match up with the Vermont Catamounts on Monday, March 20. They will face the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday, March 23. Both games are scheduled to being at 3:30 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium.
