Foster City, CA - At the 2007 Head of the Lagoon, the Saint Mary's women's rowing team captured four gold medals, winning all four races that the team entered. The Gaels won gold medals in the open four, open eight, freshman eight and lightweight four events.
In the women's open four race, Saint Mary's entered two boats. The Gaels "A" boat posted a time of 22:02 to defeat PRC by 22 seconds. The second SMC boat finished the race in a time of 22:47 to finish third in the seven-boat race.
In the open eight race, the Gaels pulled a time of 22:06 and defeated BIAC by 11 seconds in a head-to-head race. The freshman eight race had four boats entered, and Saint Mary's crossed the finish line nearly three minutes ahead of its closest competition. The Gaels posted a time of 22:25 and Sonoma State finished second in a time of 25:09.

The head of the Lagoon completes the women's rowing fall schedule. Saint Mary's will return to the water on March 15, 2008 at the Sacramento Invitational at Lake Natoma.
