WCC QUICK HITS

  • Fresh off a dual win over Gonzaga, the LMU women's rowing team continued its successful streak last Saturday, defending its title at the Berg Cup, hosted by Orange Coast College in Newport Beach. The Lions swept the competition in 2012 and did not disappoint this year with a convincing 0:07.7 second victory in the Varsity 8. LMU also won the Second Varsity 8 and placed third in the Varsity 4.

  • San Diego finished third at the Longhorn Invitational after sweeping Iowa on the final day of competition. San Diego's Varsity 8 put together the fastest time of any squad on Sunday with a winning time of 6:29.2. The Toreros also posted team sweeps over Tulsa (Friday) and Kansas State (Saturday).

  • Saint Mary's and Portland competed in the Sacramento State Invitational to open the spring season. The Gaels and Pilots finished second and third, respectively, in the first Varsity 8 race. The Pilots then took second in the Second Varsity 8 race with the Gaels finishing in fifth.

  • Creighton opened its 2013 season with victories in two of four races at Southern Methodist. The Bluejays earned victories in the Varsity 4 race with a time of 8:14.6, more than 25 seconds faster than SMU's 8:39.9, and took home the Novice/Varsity 8-3 race as well.

  • After a loss to LMU, the Zags dropped another close race to Oregon State with the Beavers winning four of the five races. Competition proved close as the Bulldogs fell behind the Beavers in the Varsity 8 race by four seconds and just two seconds in the Second Varsity 8 race.
