Loyola Marymount Earns West Coast Conference's First Ever Crew of the Month Award

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference named its inaugural West Coast Conference Crew of the Month for the month of March on April 16, 2013. Loyola Marymount earned the Conference's first ever honor.

The Loyola Marymount Varsity 8 crew began the month of March with a huge head-to-head victory over WCC preseason favorite Gonzaga on March 15. The boats faced off on LMU's home Ballona Creek course in Marina del Rey with the Lions earning a time of 7:21.84 to the Zags' 7:31.01. The win marked LMU's first over the Zags since the 2006 WCC Championship.

The Lions' Varsity 8 boat followed that win by defending its title at the Berg Cup, hosted by Orange Coast College on Newport Beach on March 23. LMU placed first in a time of 6:45.5, followed by UC Santa Barbara (6:3.2), OCC (7:03.7), UC Irvine (7:12.3) and Chapman (8:27.0).
