Women's Rowing Gets Final Tune Up Before WCC Championships

Port of Redwood Shores - The Saint Mary's women's rowing team competed in an event against Stanford and Santa Clara on Saturday. The Gaels posted a second place finish in the varsity and second varsity eight races, and took home the top place in the novice four event.

In the varsity eight competition, Saint Mary's crossed the line just three tenths of a second behind Santa Clara. The Broncos completed the race in a time of 7:33.5 and the Gaels pulled to a time of 7:33.8. Finishing third in the varsity eight race was the Stanford Lightweights with a time of 8:01.0.

Saint Mary's entered two boats in the second varsity eight event and posted a second and third place finish. SMC's second varsity eights pulled a time of 8:05.0 and finished five second behind Santa Clara. The Gaels' novice eights finished the race in a time of 8:10.1 for third place.

The last event for the Gaels was the novice four's where SMC posted a first and third. The novice four "A" pulled to a time of 8:57.3 and finished 23 seconds ahead of Santa Clara. SMC's novice four "B" posted a time of 9:38 for third place.

Saint Mary's will return to the water on Friday, April 28 at Lake Natoma for the 2006 West Coast Conference Championships. The WCC Championships will have three races to decide the conference champions. The races include varsity eight, second varsity eight and the varsity four competitions.
