Lions Return to Lake Natoma for Championships

Briefly
The LMU crew teams return to Lake Natoma in Sacramento for the second time in three weeks to compete in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships and the Pac-10 Championships. LMU is coming off of its first ever WCC Rowing Championship two weeks ago at Lake Natoma.

Pacific Coast Rowing Championships
Two Lion boats will enter the PCRCs on Saturday. The Lions will enter a boat in the Women's Novice 4 and the Men's Open 4.

The schedule for those events is as follows:
8:30am - Women's Novice 4 Heat 2
9:00am - Men's Open 4 Heat 1
12:30pm - Women's Novice 4 Finals
1:50pm - Men's Open 4 Finals

Pac-10 Championships
The Pac-10 Championships features 13 schools, including three WCC schools (LMU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's). Five LMU boats will compete in the Pac-10 Championships this Sunday. LMU will enter boats in the following races: Women's Varsity 4, Men's Varsity 4, Women's 2nd Varsity 8, Men's Varsity 8, Women's Varsity 8.

Looking Back
LMU won its first ever WCC Rowing Championship on April 28th at Lake Natoma. The Lions edged Gonzaga in the closest title race in conference history. After three races, both programs finished with 27 points, but the Lions earn the crown based on a 4.5 second victory in the varsity 8 race. Four Lions earned All-WCC honors, and head coach Patrick Kelly was named the WCC Coach of the Year for the third time.

LMU had a strong team showing at the WIRA Championships on April 29th and 30th, advancing to the Grand Final in seven of the eight events in which they entered boats. The women's varsity 8 placed 2nd, while the men's varsity 8 placed 6th. LMU's women's novice 4 earned a bronze medal by placing 3rd.

Lions Earn All-Conference Honors
Three women's rowers earned All-Conference honors at the recent WCC and WIRA Championships. Senior Liz Stewart, sophomore Jill Austin and freshman Christina Duechle earned both All-WCC and All-WIRA honors. In addition, sophomore coxswain Jenn Guess earned All-WCC honors. Head Coach Patrick Kelly was named the WCC Coach of the Year for the third time.

Rowers Honored at End of the Year Ceremonies
When the LMU athletic department handed out its annual awards this year, several members of the crew teams received honors. Warren Anderson was named the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Alli Mitrovich earned the department's community service award. The men's crew team was named the Male Strength and Conditioning Team of the Year.

Rowers Earn Monthly Honors
The spring, both the men's and women's varsity 8 boats were honored as the LMU Student-Athlete of the Month. The men's varsity 8 won the March award after going undefeated to start the season. The women's varsity 8 won the April award by winning the WCC Championship and finishing 2nd at the WIRA Championships.
