Baker Named 2006 All-Team MVP for Women's Rowing

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's rowing team wrapped up the season with their annual banquet this past weekend. Senior Christy Baker was named the 2006 All-Team MVP for her performance on the water this past season. She was also honored with the Varsity Eight team MVP award.

"This year's group provided exceptional leadership and will really be missed," said head coach Joan O'Hara.

The Novice team MVP was awarded to Catherine Russo, a junior port rower, for her outstanding skill on the water with the novice rowing team. The Torero Spirit Award was given to coxswain Alicia Cresap for demonstrating the ideals of the women's rowing team.

The Toreros lose five seniors to graduation, all of whom were four-year rowers. Nicole Thompson-Box, Elisabeth Sibulsky, Katie Kerr, Alicia Cresap, and Christy Baker, all of whom were honored with a plaque for their dedication and determination.

Team captains Christy Baker and Alicia Cresap were also honored with a framed photograph signed by their teammates. The photographs and frames were donated by the father of Jacquelyn Harris.

"Every year, it's so difficult to say good-bye to our senior athletes. It never gets any easier," commented O'Hara.

The 2006 season ended with a fourth place finish at the Dad Vail regatta two weeks ago in Philadelphia, Pa., the best finish in the programs history at the event.
