LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior Liz Stewart became the first LMU rower to be named All-American when the Pocock All-American selections were announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). The Tustin, CA earned second team honors after leading LMU to its first ever WCC Championship in April.
In May, Stewart was the first Lion to earn First Team All-Region honors after sitting in the stroke seat for the 2006 season.
It was a groundbreaking season for the LMU. The team won the WCC Championships on April 29th for the first time ever. After the 2nd varsity 8 and varsity 4 recorded second place finishes, the varsity 8 defeated second place Gonzaga by a boat length to capture the conference title.
The Lions also recorded a second place finish at the WIRA Championships on April 31st, falling to Sacramento State. The team avenged that loss at the Pac-10 Championships, finishing 8th overall. LMU placed highest among non-Pac-10 schools, including Sacramento State and Gonzaga.
Stewart is the first LMU rower to be named All-American and the first Lion to earn first team All-West Region honors. Former Lion Vanessa Glendenning earned second team honors in 2004 and 2005.
