Joan O'Hara, head coach for women's rowing, announced today that three student-athletes have signed on for the upcoming 2006-07 season. The trio includes transfer Jovana Djukic, and freshmen Kat Petrich and Emmi Buck.
Jovana Djukic, who is transferring from Barry University in Miami, Florida, signed a scholarship agreement and will be entering USD as a junior. Jovana was 7-seat on the Barry Varsity Eight that won the Silver at the NCAA DII Championships earlier this month. Originally from Zrenjanin, Serbia and Montenegro, Jovana has been rowing for 6 years. As a member of the Serbian Junior National Team, Jovana earned medals in sculling at the Balkan National Championships in 2003. Jovana's sister, Jelena, is also a rower and is currently the Stroke of the Cal Varsity Eight that won the NCAA Varsity Eight in 2005, and the NCAA Division I Team Championship this year.
Kat Petrich will join the Toreros as a freshman, and comes to USD from Seattle, Washington, where she has been rowing with Green Lake Crew for five years. Kat has medaled in both sculling and sweep rowing in such prestigious Junior regattas as The Northwest Regional Championships and Youth Nationals in Cincinnati. This summer, Kat will be representing the United States at the Can Am Mex Regatta in Mexico City.
Emmi Buck comes to USD as a freshman with 3 years of experience as a coxswain at Commencement Bay Rowing Club in Tacoma, Washington, where she has been the coxswain of the top Varsity Eight for the past 2 years.
