PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - Four Gonzaga University women's rowers competed at the USRowing Club National Championships July 18-21. Recent graduate Nicole Aadland-Lewis, seniors Cory Nelson and Kelly Steinhaus and sophomore Liz Moore all participated in the event held at the Cooper River Venue and Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, N.J.
In the Intermediate 4x, the Potomac Boat Club, which Steinhaus was a member of, captured gold with a winning time of 6:57.53. Placing third was Aadland-Lewis' Vesper Boat Club finishing in 6:59.63.
Both Potomac Boat Club and Vesper Boat Club won its heats to earn a spot in the Intermediate 4x finals. Vesper Boat Club won heat one with a time of 7:17.11, while Potomac Boat Club earned the heat two victory in 7:02:88.
Aadland-Lewis and Nelson both helped Vesper Boat Club capture silver in the Intermediate 8+. The USRowing Development Camp - Boston squeaked out a one-second victory over Vesper Boat Club. The USRowing Development Camp boat closed out the course in 6:50.39, while Vesper Boat Club clocked in at 6:51.30.
Both Steinhaus and Moore participated in the Intermediate 2x. Steinhaus again rowed with the Potomac Boat Club and Moore rowed with Austinburg Boat Club. Steinhaus and the Potomac Boat Club earned a sixth place finish with a time of 8:24.87 after winning its heat race (7:52.99) and placing third in its semifinal heat (7:47.67). Moore and Austinburg Boat Club finished second in its heat race in a time of 7:58.92 but missed a chance at the finals after placing sixth in its semifinal heat (8:06.76).
Closing out the Championships was a fifth place finish in the Intermediate 2- by Vesper Boat Club and Aadland-Lewis and a sixth place finish in the Senior 2- by Austinburg Boat Club and Liz Moore.
