Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's head women's rowing coach Pasha Spencer announces that five freshmen recruits will be added to the varsity roster for the 2007-08 season. Included in this year's freshman class are Marrah Galvin (Falls Church, VA), Laura Kocourek (San Francisco, CA), Jackie Lindo (Roxbury, CT), Taylor Logan-Balian (Sacramento, CA), and Jordan Bonadio (Phoenix, AZ).
"I know the new group is excited about building our rowing program and bringing it to a new level of competitiveness," said Spencer. "They all were committed high-school rowers and I look forward to watching them raise the bar this year."
Marrah Galvin comes to Saint Mary's from Bishop Denis O'Connell High School where she was a member of the crew team for four years. She was the coxswain for the men's rowing team her freshman and sophomore seasons, and then was the coxswain for the women's 8+ and 4+ during her junior and senior seasons. With less than one year in rowing experience, Lindo posted a ninth place finish at the 2007 Crash B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships. In addition to her performance at Crash B's, Lindo took home first place honors in the women's single 2K-race at Indian Wells St. Park.
Jordan Bonadio is a 5-10 rower from Arcadia High School in Phoenix, AZ. Bonadio was a three-year member of the Tempe Junior Crew Team. In 2007 she posted a second place finish in a double at the Brentwood School Regatta in Canada.
