Women's Rowing Welcomes Incoming Toreros

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's rowing team announces their 2006 recruits for the upcoming season. Joining the Torero roster in September will be Samantha Shaw who comes to USD from Green Lake Crew in Seattle, where she has been a four-year rower. Sam brings with her a tremendous amount of experience, including gold-medal performances in sweep rowing at the 2005 Northwest Regional Championships. Sam will represent the United States this summer at the Can Am Mex Regatta in Mexico City.

Emma Lord comes to USD from Philadelphia where she has been rowing for two years out of Bachelors Barge. Emma has won medals in sculling at the Philadelphia City Championships and Interscholastic Sculling Championships, in addition to being a semi-finalist in junior sculling at the Royal Canadian Henley.

Margarit Wespi comes to USD as a freshman, having just graduated from The Northfield Mount Herman School in New Hampshire. An Oregon native, Margrit will bring with her four years of varsity rowing experience. Margrit is also a competitive x-country skier and was Captain of her team for two years at NMH.

Ariane Benito joins the Toreros as a junior transfer from Sonoma State University, where she has been rowing for the past two years. Most recently, Ariane took home a gold medal from the 2006 WIRA Championships, where her Varsity Eight won the DII/III Women's Championship.
