Lions Strong in Season Tune-up

FULLERTON, Calif. - The LMU women's soccer team had a strong start to the 2006 season but fell to #15 Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, in a preseason scrimmage at Titan Stadium on Thursday night. Every available player on the roster saw playing time in the final tune-up before the regular season opener on August 25th. Junior Jamie Bell led the way with three shots for LMU.

Following a scoreless first period, the Titans' Brianna Buffington scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute. For the game, LMU outshot CSUF 9-7 with Bell leading the way with three shots. Tana Smothermon added two shots for the Lions.

Cal State Fullerton advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament a year ago and is ranked #15 in the preseason NSCAA/adidas poll. LMU was 6-10-4 in 2005 and has 12 newcomers to this year's squad.

The Lions open the regular season at Sullivan Field on Friday, August 25th at 1:00pm when they host San Jose State.
