St. Mary's Drops 1-0 Decision to Sacramento State in Overtime

Sacramento, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 double overtime road loss to Sacramento State on Tuesday from Hornet Field in Sacramento, CA. Sacramento State's Kayelyn Satkowski scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute, giving the Hornets their first win of the season. With the loss SMC falls to 1-1 on the year, while CSUS improved to 1-1.

Satkowski's first goal of the season came off a diagonal pass from Katie McCoy and was shot to the far post past SMC goalkeeper Noelle Brown. Brown, who faced 22 shots by Sacramento State, recorded six saves for the Gaels.

Nikki Schrey led the Gaels with three shots and Stefani Rocco took two shots. As a team, Saint Mary's had eight total attempts, with just one attempt in the overtime sessions. The Gaels took three shots in the first 45 minutes, while Sacramento State took seven shots. In the second half, SMC was held to for shots while the Hornets took 12 shots in the final 45 minutes. Sacramento State goalkeeper Mandy Trojan had four saves in the contest.

The Saint Mary's women's soccer team will return to action on Friday when it travels to Berkeley, CA to participate in the California Invitational. The Gaels opening round opponent is the 15th ranked Cal State Fullerton Titans. Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
