MALIBU, Calif. - Freshman Christine Mock's goal in the 82nd minute of play lifted the University of San Diego women's soccer team (3-1-0) to a 2-1 non-conference win against the University of Dayton (0-1-2) at the Pepperdine Tournament Sunday afternoon.
With the score knotted at 1-1, the Toreros turned to Mock for some help and she delivered. Mock was able to control a pass from senior defender Brittany Young and punch the ball into the back of the net to give USD the 2-1 victory.
The Toreros jumped out to an early lead as in the 24th minute Leigh Ann Robinson skied a pass to the left side of the goal box, where freshman Hallie Huston hit a one-timer past the Dayton goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal and a 1-0 USD lead.
The Flyers didn't fade away as they were able to knot the score at 1-1 when Dara Elk was on the receiving end of an Annette Bonasso pass, and was able to get sneak the ball past USD's goalkeeper Karen Cook.
The Flyers had a shot advantage over USD at 14-8, and the two teams were even on corner kicks at four apiece.
Cook picked up the win for the Toreros in the goal allowing one goal while recording three saves. Tasha Dittamore was charged with the loss for Dayton as she allowed one goal and registered no saves on the afternoon.
The Toreros will return to the pitch on Friday as they host Cal State Fullerton in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference match at Torero Stadium.
