(WAIPAHU, O`ahu) - San Francisco scored two goals in the final 11 minutes to post a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Cornell in the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Shootout Saturday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. After falling behind 1-0 with less than 20 minutes left in the match, the Dons (3-4) struck back with goals in the 79th and 88th minute.
All three goals in the match came off corner kicks. Cornell (1-4-1) got on the board first with a goal by senior forward Alison McKeown. Senior midfielder Jessica Synder served a corner kick from the left side that found the feet of McKeown in traffic for the first goal of the match at the 70:55 mark.
USF equalized eight minutes later on a corner kick of their own. Senior forward Chelsea Hunt's header hit the post and junior forward Fiona Sullivan knocked in a rebound shot to tie the score. The game-winner came at 87:49 mark, again off a corner kick. Senior defender Hilary Fisher sent a header to goal, which was headed in from five yards out by junior midfielder Lauren Tweet. The Dons nearly doubled up the Big Red on shots (21-10) and had nine corner kicks to Cornell's three.
USF's win set up a showdown with Hawai`i for the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Shootout championship on Sunday night. Kickoff is 5:00 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
